-My friend came to me one day mad. I asked her what was wrong and she said:

"my mom grounded me for listening to rock. She said that it is out of black culture for me to listen to it. She said that when I get home for the next two weeks, we are going to listen to little wayne er whatever. Im gonna diiie"



what should I do to help her?you should tell her that black people invented the blues and to tell her mother what about Jimi Hendrix, Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, Robert Johnson, what about Jazz, the delta blues. How is that not black culture? People used that music to get through the rough times of slavery and eventually boomed the world internationally. You can't say little wayne is culture he just talks a lot of **** and can't back it up. Tell your friend that rock developed from Jazz and blues...two forms of music that developed as a result of black identity. Her mother doesn't know anything about culture. Just do that and be there for her, tell her if she has to listen to the music in secret. Music chooses the listener and you can't punish someone for feeling a certain way because of it...hell this woman makes me mad wtfTell her to show her mom this rock band called Killswitch Engage.. Their singing/screamer is black.
